In studio cinematography, light softness is determined by the relative size of the light source compared to the subject. A 6-inch ring light acts as a harsh point source, creating deep shadows under your nose and chin while highlighting blemishes and oily skin.
In contrast, a 24-inch or 27-inch display sitting 2 feet in front of you creates a broad 350-square-inch plane of photon emission. This wraps around your facial contours, filling in shadows and producing natural "catchlights" (sparkling reflections) in your eyes that make you appear engaged and alert.

The secret to looking natural on video is color temperature balance. If your room has warm lamps (2700K) and your screen is pure bluish white (6500K), your webcam's auto-white balance will get confused, making your face look purple or sickly green.

- Primary Screen (Key Light): Positioned directly behind your webcam. Set this screen to 85% brightness at your target Kelvin temperature (e.g. 5000K). This provides the primary illumination on your face.
